SW-453 Unusual Samurai Sword, Japanese Army Officer's Quality Suke Hiro Copy $2499.95
SW-453 Unusual Samurai Sword, Japanese Army Officer's Quality Suke Hiro Copy
This unusual Samurai sword is the first of this type we have had! WW II Japanese Army officer’s Samurai sword. Very interesting example of a nice quality early war sword that was made in the style of one of Japan’s most famous sword smiths, Suke Hiro. The smith has nicely forged Suke Hiro’s signature on the tang in the Maru style. The signature extends to both sides of the tang and roughly translates; Suke Hiro, Lord of Ichi Zen 1 Day in Augues 4th year of Enpo (1676). My sword expert believes this was a substitute sword made as a copy of a fine family sword that a young officer could take it with him into battle without risking a national treasure quality sword. This is a nice Showa period (WW II era) quality sword by an above average smith. The (27” blade is bright but has some finger print frosting and light pitting. It has a nice “Gentle Doran” style temper line. The handle wrap has worn thin in spots but still has a good overall appearance. Military style scabbards and fittings are VG. This a very attractive sword. A true Suke Hiro sword would be worth upwards of $100,00. You can buy this copy for $2499.95. w
