A First Pattern Dagger by Weyersberg,  Kirschbaum & Co - The blade measures approximately 11 3/4' long and is bright and crisp. VG+ condition. The blade's ricasso is maker marked "WKC" (Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co., Solingen) with the company's knight emblem, while the blade itself retains some cross graining and exhibits some scratches common to extraction and return to the scabbard.  The cross guard, exhibits good detail, complemented by the circular Swastika insignia in the center on both sides. The wooden based grip is wrapped in blue/black Moroccan grip leather, accented by twelve rows of tight copper springy wire. The pommel features a circular bronze Swastika on both sides, one show contact marks. The scabbard is in VG++ condition has one screw in the throat characteristic of WKC examples. The scabbard has no profound flaws. It is wrapped in the same blue/black Moroccan leather as the dagger's grip, with an undamaged ball finial on the chape, complemented by two dagger hanger rings. The attached chain is aluminum, marked "DRGM." This mark can be found on many antique items that were made in Germany and Austria from 1891 until just before the end of the Second World War. The mark D. R. G. M. stands for Deutsches Reich Gebrauchs Muster this is a utility model patent for commercially applicable inventions. This is an early example with nickel/silver fittings that were discontinued in 1936 and replaced with polished aluminum. PORTEPEE FOR DISPLAY ONLY, NOT INCLUDED WITH THE DAGGER.
