This is a great WWI US Army Canteen and cover which has been modified for either cavalry or later for vehicle use. The canteen hooks on the back have been bent around a steel ring (which has been heavily rusted), then a canvas strap and clip riveted to the ring so it would extend where the canteen would hang. No date visible on the cover or the canteen.
