Item #13016
This is a 2nd model Maynard carbine in good condition. It is in .36 caliber, the bore is in fair condition with the rifling clear and present however there is a significant amount of pitting towards the breech. The stock is an aged reproduction with original parts. There is approximately 20 to 30% of the overall finish remaining. The lever action is smooth and a little loose.
These .36 caliber carbines were used by both sides but a majority went to the south being the majority of the .36 caliber version. The Northern States and Federal Government primarily purchased the .50 caliber version. The Maynard Company was shipping these carbines to the Southern States as late as 1861. The serial number appears to be 17600, but is really faint. The Maynard markings still exist on the left side of the receiver with a final patent date of Dec. 5, 1859. Overall an interesting and rare Civil War carbine.
