Item #15937
This is an excellent example of a Type II M1816 US flintlock musket MFG by W.L Evans in 1826. Approximately 5,000 of these type II's were made. W.L. Evans type II muskets have the name spelled "Evens", a stamp maker's error that evidently was thought not worth correcting until a new stamp was made for the type III. At the bottom of the lock is the "V. Forge." This is where the muskets were produced. The overall condition is excellent bright condition with only minimal pitting around the muzzle and the lock. The barrel has the US, inspectors marks and "P" firing proof. The opposite side of the lock still retains the cartouche and has initials carved into the stock. "T.F.E." The stock has only minimal dings and no cracks or major chips. Overall a beautiful M1816 type with bayonet. The bayonet is lightly pitted but has large areas of discoloration from rust. Also marked "US" with an inspectors stamp. These are tough muskets to find still in the original flintlock version as many of these were converted to percussion. (CONSIGNMENT)
