GM-008. WWII German Death Notices. (^1)
Item #3604
These privately printed notices (done at the family's expense) were handed out at the soldier's memorial service and mailed to friends and relatives. Each has a uniform photo of the soldier along with some information about his service, medals if any, where was born and killed etc.
Examples: "Sebastian Moser, farmer from Zwecksberg, Serving as a corporal in an infantry regiment. Killed 13 February 1943 during a large battle near Sorino (Italy) while hornorably serving his Fuhrer, people and country in his 31st year." Typical examples shown. Our choice.
"Adolf Kopp, my dearly departed husband, a shoemaker from Schonau and a senior corporal in a Russian P.O.W. camp due to a serious illness in his 42 1/2 year."
"Johann Baur, a loving husband, father , son and good brother, a staff sergeant in an infantry regiment and a reciepine tof the War Merti Cross with Seords, Born on 30 Jan, 1917 in Asbach, he fell on 15 Sept. 1944 in Torwa , Estonia."
Each is a unique reminder of the human cost of war. Most will have religious references, some will not. Ardent Nazis, who were few in the Army, believed in the state , not in God. Some are two pages, others are four pages. They make interesting center pieces for a display mount (Riker) grouping.
