GM-287 WW I German and Austrian Death Notices

This item is listed for historical interest only. It is not for sale.
Item #7798

Rarely were soldiers who were killed in action returned home for burial. Many lay where they fell and were lost to artillery fire, others were buried on the battlefield or nearby. Accordingly, there were no bodies for funeral services at home. Instead families had these cards printed up announcing the death and they were distributed to family and friends as a keepsake. Most are approx. 3 3/4" x 2 1/2" and will contain a photo of the deceased in their uniform along with their rank, medals (if any), unit and date and location of death. Often there is a print with a religious theme showing an angel or Christ himeself giving aid to a fallen soldier. Condition varies but most are good to very good. These make a great center piece for display wit period medals and are a poignant reminder of the millions of German and Austrian soldiers that died during WW I. Examples shown are representative of available stock on hand.
