Item #18398
Good condition and a great example of this hard to find late war dagger. Fittings and the grip are made of molded/ painted resin, scabbard is leather with molded and painted fittings as well. The scabbard latch button which would lock the blade into the scabbard appears to have been very poorly made and was either partially removed or broken. 7+ inch blade retains the original poor finish, as this is a late war or last ditch it does not appear that they made much attempt to polish or finish the blade. You can still see the file markings when the blade was roughly finished, then it appears lightly polished. It is a standard late war machine made blade. Externally it rates Very Good. The fittings remain nice with some of their gilting finish intact and there is no cracking to the one piece molded grip. A nice attractive dagger with some light age. As far as workmanship went, this would be a good example of how desperate things were getting towards the end of the war. Amazing that these ceremonial dress items continued to be produced virtually up to the end of the war.
