Item #27219

This is a Very Good condition Bicorn (Fore and Aft) cap set with epaulettes (shoulder boards) and sword belt. All are in excellent condition showing very little age and wear. The japanned tin box is in Fair, used condition, showing significant use and remnants of many shipping labels over the years. It measures 18 inches by 9 inches by 7.5 inches. The box is lined with waterproof red velvet, which is a bit loose but can easily be resecured, and it has a compartment in the top for orders and other papers. Nice P&O shipping labels on the exterior. Hat was made by Gieve, Matthews, and Seacrove of London, Portsmouth, and Devonport. Hat is in excellent condition inside and have very slight rubbing to the edges on the outside. Minor losses to the silk on the bottom of the bullion epaulettes, which are otherwise perfect. This belonged to E. R-C. Nanson, who retired from the Royal Navy in 1914 to join the Royal Air Force, so this set dates before 1914. He was a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) and a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross and the Air Force Cross. After WWI, he continued in the RAF and countered the 1927-30 Akhwan Rebellion in southern Iraq. There's a specific clasp for the General Service Medal that reflects his command there. He ended up as an RAF group captain and later served as a inspector of recruiting in WWII.

This is an excellent set that is in extremely good condition for its age.Dont miss out on this one!
