UH-480, Late 1800s / Early 1900s US M1881 9th Infantry Enlisted Helmet

This item is listed for historical interest only. It is not for sale.
Item #15441

The 9th is one of our Army's oldest regiments. During the time this helmet was worn they served in the Indian Wars (1886 Apache Campaign against Geronimo in Arizona), the Spanish-American War and the Boxer Rebellion in China. It was in China where they earned the nickname "Manchus". During the Battle of Tientsin they suffered heavy casualties including their commander, Col. Liscum, who was killed in action. Three of their men earned the Medal of Honor in this engagement. Helmet is in Very Good condition. With light age / wear. Sweatband is Horstman marked and shows wear / age. Other than that, this helmet would rate Very Good+ with no issues. Makes a very nice display piece from one of our historic regiments. AVAILABLE FOR DELIVERY AFTER SEPTEMBER 7, 2013
