UM-225, USMC Brig. General J.W. Hubbard Grouping

(WWII 2nd Marine Raider Battalion). BG Hubbard began his 32 year career in 1940 as an enlistedman. He first served as a gunner on the Battleship Mississippi. After the war started, he received a commission and served as a platoon leader in the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion in the Bougainville Operation. He later fought at Emirau, Guam and Okinawa. In 1946, he went to flight training and became a fighter pilot. He flew an F4U Corsair in Korea where he received the Silver Star and Distinguished Flying Cross. He flew F-4 Phantoms in Vietnam and had a total of 165 combat missions. He retired in 1972 and went on to be the Chief of Police in Memphis Tennesse. He died of cancer in 2003. Grouping consists of -his 1950s officers sam brown belt, -1972 dated unit presentation plaque from HMMT-402 (Marine Medium Helicopter Training Squadron) to BG Hubbard. It is mounted on a 18 by 5.5 aviation tire that has a "blow out" hole in it and is signed on the sidewal by different officers and men. -Korean War Aviators blood chit (mint); -Korean War cloth escape map (honshu and Yangtze River); -Vietnam War escape maps (vinyl, 2) for Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam; -Vietnam Era Piolts penlight flashlight; -1980s Nomex aviator's gloves; -officer's white gloves; -officer's dress blue uniform (size 42) no insignia; -Green USMC generals overseas cap with insignia; - Two FJ-4 flight computers (air navigation), Vietnam War Era; -Naval aviators (USMC) qualification jacket (personel file) with contents, dates 1950s to 1970s; -Misc. training certificates (non combat related); -Several paper maps of Saigon / Vietnam; -Military pocket guide books Okinawa and Vietnam; -30 8x10 photos of Vietnam, Korea, etc (aircrafft, bases, change of command, etc); -Six 8x10 negatives of FJ3M Fury Fighters; -Legion of Merit Award certificate in folder for service 1971-1972; -Vietnam War Legion of Merit Award certificate with Combat V 1967 in folder; -Vietnam Air Medal gold stars citation in folder; -Vietnam Legion of Merit certificate 1967-1968 in folder; -Vietnam War Air Medal gold star citation in folder; -Post Vietnam War Legion of Merit certificate in folder; -December 1972 certificate of retirement signed by the Commandant in folder; Many of these come with supporting documents. All items are in Very Good or better condition and came to us via his family. A neat grouping from one of the "Old Breed". All items in Good to Very Good condition. Comes with a copy of his biography.
