UWA-0036 WWII US Kroehler brand US Army drone plane wooden propeller - Kroehler for radio plane co.

This item is listed for historical interest only. It is not for sale.
Item #19718

This is a very unique WWII US Kroehler brand US Army monoplane drone wooden propeller, manufactured in conjunction with the target plane firm, radio plane co. This vintage drone propeller measures 30 inches in length by 3 inches in depth.  The prop has a little bit of damage on the trailing edge of one side.  Does not detract overall from the appearance.  There is also some light staining to the wood in spots.  Overall would really make an awesome display.  Additional pictures in the listing are only for reference, printed copies are not included.  There is an interesting story as well behind the company that produced this prop.  When Norma Jeane (Marilyn Monroe) first arrived in California, she managed to get a job at the Radioplane co. as an assembler on the OQ-3 production line. On 26 June 1945, US Army photographer David Conover was sent to the factory to photograph female war workers. The camera and the photographer loved Norma Jeane and he persuaded her to model for more photos that soon were circulating in Hollywood. A screen test, a change of name and a career very different from assembling robot planes quickly followed.  Just to confirm we are not claiming that this is the one she is holding, these props just had an unusual back story!
