Item #21113
This is a great Post WWII M1 Garand rifle bayonets. There is a lot of discussion as to why and for who these bayonets were produced for. These bayonets are commonly seen as part of the post WWII effort to give aid to nations we helped to destroy as well as allies. These are thought to have been produced for both US and Greek use under US contract and are exactly the same as the WWII production M1 Garand bayonets. There is some evidence that these bayonets were actually produced in occupied Germany, as previously stated, under US contract by E.F. Horster in Solingen Germany who was one of the best know manufacturers of swords, bayonets, knives and daggers during WWII in Germany. The blade is marked EN-S along with a larger than usual US flaming bomb then below E US. The blade is almost flawless showing just minor use and grips are in good condition with typical service wear. The crossguard is also stamped with what appears to be an issue number. The scabbard is also marked E-US and has the typical repaired metal tip. The scabbard paint has worn and remains in only a few places showing the original fiberglass body. Overall nice shape and an interesting piece of history.
