Item #18412
This is a nice original WWII US Army four pocket service jacket. The jacket came from the son of the veteran. His name was Richard Theodore Schutz. He was born in Pomona, California but was raised in Sacramento. He joined the 37th Infantry Division out of Sacramento on 9 March 1943 and was sent to the Pacific where he was later wounded by shrapnel from a grenade to his hand. He was reassigned due to his wound to the Army Air Forces and was classified as a ball turret repairman until he was medically discharged due to the wounds to his hand. His brother was in the 82nd Airborne and was killed during the war during the Market Garden campaign.
The coat is in overall good + condition and retains his laundry number "S-2078." There is some minor wear to the outside of the coat but does not detract from the overall appearance. His uniform does retain the 37th ID patch as his combat patch and the AAF patch as his current unit patch. He was also promoted during the war and retains the rank of corporal. A copy of his National Archives one page record is included along with the sheet from his son with additional basic information.
