UXG-0069 WWI to WWII US Army 1911 .45 cal Holster conversion

This item is listed for historical interest only. It is not for sale.
Item #21520

This is an interesting holster.  This WWI US Army 1911 .45 cal holster has the old style of leather stamping or impressing to the front which was typically seen before or during the WWI.  The numbers are "1, 11, 5" which should stand for 1st Troop of the 11th US Cavalry, trooper number 5.  What makes me think it is a conversion is that the hanger flap on the back is lighter than the rest of the leather and has no date or maker mark and was clearly sewn on at a later date.  So our thought are that this was a cavalry drop holster that was converted to a standard holster sometime during or after WWI.  The rest of the holster is in good condition with only minor crazing wear to the leather in the typical places at the top of the flap.  There is also some stitching which was cut at the throat of the holster so right next to where the trigger guard sits inside the holster.  Otherwise the holster is in good to very good condition.
