Item #29296

Few people realize that there was a pro Nazi movement in the U.S. prior to WWII called the German American Bund. They held marches, rallies (the most famous at NYC's Madison Beer Gardens) and even had summer camps. One was camp Siegfried on Long Island, N.Y. There they had a clubhouse with restaurant and other quality amenities (well documented on the web). This demitasse cup and saucer are from the camp Siefried club house. Both are German made China from the Geierstahl Firm. The small cup bearsthe Bunds swastika design in gold leaf along with the camp's name. It comes with the matching saucer. Both are in very good condition, no issues, except for a small flaw on the cups front rim just below "camp." Included is a 1st edition of Scott Freelands definitive heavily illustrated book on the German-American Bund. "They too were Americans." The book shows the exact set named to another U.S. camp. As can be imagined once the war started the majority of Bund members dropper this movement like a hot kartoffel and embraced their new country with patriotic fervor. Accordingly most of their pro Nazi items were destroyed or siezed with their unrepentant owners when the F.B.I. and immigration came to investigate their loyalty. These are the only German American Bund items we have encountered in 50 years of collecting.
