Item #18610
The swivel rail cannon (named the Lantaka) were types of cannons that were produced throughout Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and the Philippines (Mindanao). However earlier and better made examples were also known to be produced in Holland and exported to the South West Pacific. They will vary in size, due to use, from 10" inches long to 6.5' feet long.
This particular cannon is 32" long and weighs 28 pounds. It is adorned with intricate scroll work along the tube itself. On top of the tube itself it has two small dragons/ alligators. Overall a very interesting piece and one that tells a tale of ship defense prior to 1900. These are still used but mainly for ceremonial purposes. (CONSIGNMENT)
